Overview – Arm Lift Surgery
An arm lift (also known as Brachioplasty and sometimes referred to as upper arm lift), is a surgical procedure to remove loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm. These deposits are typically due to age resulting in arm skin that can become loose and flabby.

Description
Arm lifts are performed mainly on women, for the purpose of removing loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm area and more specifically between the underarm and the elbow. The procedure is performed when the skin becomes loose and flabby and results in a better toned and proportionate arm appearance.

Over time, the arm tissue relaxes and descends. This can be the result of many factors (and usually a combination of them) including aging, gravity and weight loss, although the most common reason for excess skin in the arm is losing a significant amount of weight. Many times after weight loss, the skin fails to tighten, and sags as a result.

Procedure
Currently there are three types of brachioplasty approaches, the traditional brachioplasty, the extended brachioplasty and the minimal incision brachioplasty. The doctors will advise the best approach for you.

  • Traditional Brachioplasty

The traditional brachioplasty is typically performed on women who have lost massive amounts of weight (45 kg or more) and have excess arm skin.

In this procedure, the surgeon marks the arm-zones where the excess tissue is going to be removed. After sedation, the arms are placed and secured on arm tables and the surgeon performs an incision from the arm pit up to the elbow. After removing the excess skin, the incision is stitched before covering it with bandages.

  • Extended Brachioplasty

The extended brachioplasty procedure is usually performed on women who have also lost massive amount of weight and have excess skin running from the arm down to the outer upper chest. For this type of case, the traditional approach would be unable to remove the excess tissue and produce a good outcome.

First the surgeon marks the arms and outer upper chest of the where excess tissue is going to be removed. After sedation, the arms are placed and secured on arm tables and the surgeon performs an incision from the elbow down to the outer upper chest and removes the excess skin tissue. After removing the excess skin, the incision is stitched before covering it with bandages.

  • Minimal Incision Brachioplasty

The Minimal Incision Brachioplasty is usually performed in women that have a small amount of excess skin and are usually quite fit.

First the surgeon marks the arms and outer upper chest of the where excess tissue is going to be removed. After sedation, the arms are placed and secured on arm tables and the surgeon performs an incision in the upper arm pit. Through this incision the excess skin around the upper arm pit is removed . The skin from the upper arm is then pulled downwards in order to increase its tightness. The incision site is then stitched and bandaged.

There are several methods for arm lift procedures and this ArrivaGroups deal offers the most typical approaches to suit your situation.

The procedure can take from two to four hours. There will be some degree of discomfort following surgery and you will experience numbness in your arms for a period of time. Swelling occurs but usually begins to subside in several days. A degree of swelling may continue for longer periods, but eventually diminishes. Initial healing occurs within 10 to 14 days. Swelling and bruising gradually starts to disappear over 3-4 weeks.

Any scars begin to fade after 6-24 months depending on your upper arm skin and the type of procedure performed.

Number of Days
Only one visit is necessary to Costa Rica for the Arm Lift procedure and you will be here for only 6 days. You should allow one day for arrival, so 7 days will be the full total.

If you have other combinations of medical or dental procedures in mind, we will write to you with the total number of days needed for the combination.
