Overview – Neck Lift Surgery
A neck lift (also known as neck liposuction, neck sculpting, cervicoplasty or platysmaplasty) is a surgical procedure that restores a tight, youthful appearance to skin under the chin and neck area which has lost elasticity and exhibits banding. Other options are liposuction or a combination of procedures.

Description
A cervicoplasty or neck lift with platysmaplasty, is a neck lift that is usually performed in conjunction with liposuction, facelift, forehead lift, or other surgeries.

There are a number of procedures available to enhance the appearance of the neck. Aging of the neck is usually a combination of loose skin and muscle and some excess fat. These conditions are easily remedied with a neck lift procedure, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

Procedure

A small incision will be made under the chin and possibly in front of and/or behind your ears. These incisions allow access to the platysma (neck muscle) and any fat in the neck. The neck muscles can then be tightened and any excess fat removed.

The surgeon may choose to remove the fat with liposuction or by surgically removing the excess fat, or both. The incisions near the ears will also allow for removal of some excess skin.

Once the muscle has been tightened and any excess fat removed, the skin is re-draped over the neck. Any excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed with sutures.

It is possible the surgeon may place a drain under the skin on the neck to collect any fluid that would increase post op swelling and discomfort.

You may be fitted with a compression bandage to wear in order to help reduce post-operative swelling.
The procedure can take from two to four hours to complete. Initial swelling and bruising resolve in one to two weeks but at least several months are needed until the final result becomes stable.

There will be some degree of discomfort following surgery but fortunately little pain. Swelling occurs but usually begins to subside in several days. A degree of swelling may continue for longer periods, but eventually diminishes.

Only one visit is necessary to Costa Rica for the Neck Lift procedure and you will be here for only 4 days. You should allow one day for arrival, so 5 days will be the full total.
